About

I started out as a junior sysadmin at a university IT department—reimaging lab machines, managing email quotas, and learning that the most important troubleshooting skill is asking "what changed?" It was honest work, and it taught me to respect every layer of the stack.

These days, I'm a senior infrastructure engineer at CloudCore, an enterprise observability platform. I own the reliability roadmap, lead the on-call rotation, and spend a meaningful portion of my time turning post-incident reviews into lasting process improvements. I still miss the simplicity of a single server you could physically walk up to—less so the manual provisioning.

This blog is where I share what I've learned about infrastructure, DevOps culture, and staying sane as a platform team in an organization that expects five nines. If that sounds useful—or at least relatable—you're in the right place.

Career

2016 – Present
Senior Infrastructure Engineer
CloudCore, Amsterdam
Joined to modernize the observability platform. Built the internal alerting engine, migrated the ingestion pipeline to Kubernetes, and led the shift to infrastructure-as-code across all production environments. Currently owns the reliability roadmap for enterprise customers.
2011 – 2015
DevOps Consultant
Independent, Global
Worked with scale-ups and enterprises across Europe and North America on CI/CD adoption, cloud migrations, and on-call culture improvements. Survived several "lift and shift" projects that were anything but.
2007 – 2011
Systems Administrator
Nexagen IT, Rotterdam
Managed on-premises infrastructure for a mid-sized financial services firm. Responsible for server provisioning, network configuration, backup systems, and being the person everyone called when something broke at an inconvenient time.
2004 – 2006
Junior Sysadmin
University IT Services, Delft
Started career supporting academic computing infrastructure. Learned the fundamentals of Linux administration, network troubleshooting, and how to explain disk quota limits to frustrated PhD students.
2004
BSc Computer Science
Delft University of Technology
Graduated with a focus on distributed systems and network engineering. Final thesis on fault-tolerant cluster scheduling. Still occasionally useful.
